Background
The aim was to explore lyric writing through workshops at each individual centre and then to build one big song out of the lyrics and responses. We created a simple website where children could upload lyrics and send messages to children in the other centres.
Over three months we generated lyrics for one song that brought the ideas of children from two continents, and from ages ranging from 5 to 16. Each group of children created a distinct aspect to the final song.
Lyricist Jo Unwin worked with the children at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at Sudbourne Primary School and generated the lyrics for the final song. Musician Chris Hoban put a six piece salsa band together to give a big brass accompaniment to the children and together they rehearsed the children for the final concert. All three centres were connected at a final concert via a webcast and all three centres heard each other singing their song.
